Maidenhead United Women warmed up for their Combined Counties League Cup Semi-Final date at Watford on Thursday 9th May by wrapping up their FA Women’s National League season with victory on Sunday afternoon, setting a new club points-record in the FAWNL in the process.

The 2-1 victory at Southampton Women’s FC saw Ed Jackson-Norris’s side strike back to win from going behind for the fourth time in FAWNL matches this season. They fell behind to a penalty scored by Megan Wood in the second half with goals from joint top-scorers Simone O’Brien and Izzy Stockton’s injury time winner.

The Sirens would have had a sinking feeling briefly, as defeat coupled with a victory for Torquay United against Swindon Town would have seen the south coast club relegated but news filtered through that Swindon had held on to a 5-4 win which means the Magpies will visit Test Park again next season.

Thursday’s match gives United the chance to silverware for the first time since 2016 when they picked up the North Hampshire FA Women’s Cup. They will face Watford Development in the semi-final on Thursday at the Hornets training ground, Bell Lane, St Albans, AL2 1BZ.
