UNITED AS ONE

Maidenhead United Women will take on Abingdon United on Wednesday 28th February with a 7:45pm kick off at York Road in the FA Women’s National League. Usual admission prices will apply; £5 for adults, £2 concessions, cash only. Magpies Gold Members will be admitted for Free and the matchday programme will be on sale for £1.

Tenacious midfielder Vicky Carvill was a typically unsung hero in the last match against Bridgwater United, as she dominated the midfield throughout ninety typically hard-working minutes in an important 2-1 win. Maidenhead have had two frustrating away games against Abingdon already this season, losing by two goals to nil at The Northcourt in both the FAWNL and in the Berks & Bucks Cup and Vicky admits: “I think last time we played them we allowed them to play to their strengths and didn’t exploit their weaknesses.”

Vicky and her teammates are hoping for Magpies supporters to get behind them in this derby clash and said: “Having a crowd behind us is crucial in games like these. We always know when we play in this league that we are going to have to fight for every ball work harder and want it more than our opposite numbers. Having a crowd behind us gives us that extra push and that’s what home advantage is all about.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon the improving MUWFC Development team hosted title-chasing MK Dons and went toe-to-toe with one of the best sides in the division. The away side took the points with a 1-0 win thanks to a wind-assisted goal from Ellie Aston. The Magpies had a late goal from Anne-Marie Pejcic chalked off and manager Niall Irwin described himself as “delighted” with the team’s continued progress.
