MATCH PREVIEW

In the dugout

43-year-old Strevens is back in familiar territory at The Chigwell Construction Stadium. 'Strevs' was promoted to the EFL with the Daggers at the end of his first full season as a player in East London and enjoyed a fruitful spell with this afternoon's opposition between 2006 and 2009, scoring 41 goals in 125 matches. It must therefore have been something of a 'no-brainer' for Ben to return as manager of the Daggers on 10th March this year, succeeding Daryl McMahon in the post.

Strevens started out at the foot of the Isthmian League with Wingate & Finchley and his playing career took him to the EFL, firstly with Barnet, then next with the Daggers before spells with Brentford and Gillingham sandwiched a period not far from this parish with our local rivals Wycombe Wanderers. A further short spell with the Daggers came along before Strevens started a long association as a player, assistant manager, and then manager at Eastleigh.

Between October 2018 and January 2022, Strevens maintained almost a 40% win rate with the Hampshire side, leading the Spitfires to a play-off place at the end of his first season in charge. A penalty shoot-out defeat at Salford ended Eastleigh's EFL dream.

Players to watch

Innig Effiong – Forward – Prolific Innih is a popular goalscorer who has already hit the ‘goal-every-other-game’ mark since transferring to the Daggers for an undisclosed fee in February of this year from Aldershot. Effiong’s fourteen goals for the Shots before moving east included a consolation goal in the defeat to the Magpies at The EBB Stadium.

Sam Ling – Defender – Sam was destined to have a career in football, given the achievements of his father Martin in playing and management with the likes of Swin-don Town and Leyton Orient. Sam started his career with his dad’s old club, the Orient, and this, his second spell with the Daggers, has sandwiched a further period in E10.

Myles Weston – Midfield – Weston always proves to be a dangerous customer whenever the Magpies come up against the winger for the Daggers or our old National League South rivals Ebbsfleet United. The 35-year-old started out at Charlton and is a full international for Antigua & Barbuda alongside our own Ashley Nathaniel-George.

Last time out
The Magpies made it three wins on the spin when we last met the Daggers here at York Road on Tuesday 28th February 2023, having defeated Yeovil Town and FC Halifax Town in their two most recent outings.

Despite some late Dagenham pressure, Maidenhead defended well to move up to fourteenth place in the Vanarama National League table.
