UNITED AS ONE
It was perhaps the best weekend of a promising season for Maidenhead United Women so far as both the First Team and Development Team advanced in their respective league knock-out cup competitions.
The First Team had an impressive 9-0 victory over divisional rivals Selsey in the FAWNL Plate competition. Imogen Fisher started the ball rolling and by the end of ninety minutes, she had collected three goals. Simone O’Brien netted twice, as did Izzy Stockton whilst Sarah Thompson and Macey-Nikiah Walters rounded off the scoring. The Magpies will now visit FAWNL Division 1 South East side Haywards Heath Town on 29th October in the next round.

The Development team showed their desire and spirit by coming back from two goals down to advance in the FAWNL Reserve Cup on penalty kicks at Holyport FC for the second round in succession after pegging back London Seaward thanks to Freya Harris’s first goal for the club and an own goal by the visitors six minutes into time added on as the Magpies piled on the pressure. There was jubilation as United scored all of their penalty kicks whilst London Seaward missed one and the Magpies will now go to Watford Development in the next round on 29th October.

Meanwhile the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, United were drawn away to Tier Seven side Richmond & Kew and that tie will be played on 22nd October.

Fixtures come thick and fast now with the Development side visiting Queens Park Rangers this Sunday 8th October in a 2pm kick-off, whilst the First Team entertain one of the promotion favourites Exeter City at York Road, again in another 2pm kick-off. Admission for this game will be FREE to MUFC Gold Members, and £5 (cash only please) for adults or £2 concessions.
